hello! thanks to everyone who attended this week's meetings. we have come up with some ideas for this semester that we would like to share.
first, anyone in Practicum should have received an email regarding involving your teacher in the Arts in Education Week. we should have information regarding what teachers are interesting in participating and will be organizing events by next Wednesday. because this is on such short notice, we will need lots of help! so even if you are not in practicum, we would love to have you help out! anything we organize will be along the line of an art room open house, arts fair, community project, bake sale to raise funds for their art class, etc. so please let me know if you are interested in helping with that.
also, the next event is the SGA sponsored school supplies drive. we will have a collection bin set up in the Todd building and a list of supplies is attached. this is a great way to help out our poorly funded art programs around Murfreesboro and Rutherford county. the dollar tree is an excellent source! most of their school supplies (scissors, glue, erasers, comp. notebooks) are sold in multiples for $1. so if everyone would spend $5-$10 we would make a great impact on this supplies drive!
a later event will be the Nashville Art Crawl on October 2nd. it is a free event with shuttle buses available and is a great opportunity to get together and enjoy the Nashville art scene. for more information and to RSVP, visit the facebook event page here and let us know you are coming! everyone and their friends are welcome.
the grant for the Nashville TAEA conference on Nov. 4-6 has been written and is awaiting approval.information on that can be found here and the grant is asking for the registration for ten (10) students to be covered. we will need to fund raise to help with the initial money, as grants work through reimbursement only.
information on the spring Seattle NAEA conference is attached and we will focus on that more in the spring.
there is also a middle Tennessee conference in Dickson in March, information on that can be found on the 1st meeting agenda, which is attached.
all of the bake sale dates are included there as well, please be looking for sign up sheets outside of Dr. Sickler-Voigt's office as those times near and be ready to bake some delicious and beautiful goods!
also, we still need people to help with the Student Organization Fair next Wednesday the 8th, from 10-2. we have some volunteers for 11:30-12:30 and from 12:30-2. so we will need someone to open it and be there from 10-11:30. we will supply you with fliers, candy, a tri-fold display and sign to hang and a table will be ready for you outside the KUC knoll. you just have to sit there, smile and tell everyone how great NAEA is and why they should get involved! they don't have to be an art education major, we can collaborate with other groups on community projects and events.
so that's everything we went over in the first meeting, all documents are attached and ready to print. if you are serious about getting involved, please pick up a yellow folder from Dr. Sickler-Voigt's mailbox by her office which already contains this information. please do not take one if you are only slightly interested in helping out.
thanks and i hope to see many of you at future meetings and events!

Past Meetings and Future Events!
the record of our last meeting is attached for you to print and put in your NAEA folder.
we didnt get around to talking about the most important thing i wanted to discuss at the meeting. we have received enough funding to send 8 people to the november conference. if you want to go for sure, let me know! first come first serve. if you do want to go, you have to register at the NAEA website before October 23. unfortunatly, our funding works on a reimbursment system only. so you will have to pay for your registation yourself. keep all reciepts and you will be reimbursed around december. you must le me know if you want to go as soon as possible!
the bake sales are this week, if you signed up for something, please bring it. please show up for the times for which you signed, its halloween themed, so dress up and have fun! we need everyone to bring the plastic pumkins, cauldons, etc. to sell.
haunted history is next week! start gathering boxed to make into scenery. we will be constructing our house on tuesday and wednesday next week, any time you want. Professor Donovan has the key to the room, so ask him if you need to get in, or Brenda in the office. start making/buying your art themed costume! we decided at the meeting that we will have a fishing game at the haunted house. we will set up a wall and have people sit behind it, the kids will go fishing over it and we will attach small toys! so start gathering small cheap toys!
thats about is, any questions please let me know. otherwise i'll see you all tomorrow!

Haunted History!
Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Meeting Wednesday Ocober 14th!!!
12:00 in the 3rd floor Todd Hall lobby.
We will be discussing our upcoming events, we need people to sign up for things there. Our first bake sale is the week after that. No one is required to buy anything, but if you don't mind, please start gathering decorations for the Haunted History event. Just anything to decorate a haunted house, and if you find art themed Halloween stuff, that is so much better! The Dollar Tree is one of the most wonderful places in the world and they have a great selection of Halloween decorations. There is one by wal-mart on Rutheford and another on Broad St. next to Arby's and Phase II. If everyone spent only $5 there we would have more than enough! They also have baking ingredients and things to help make Halloween shaped cookies. They have drinks, tableclothes, posterboard, plates, cups, candy, etc. It seriously is a great place. So if you want to help out that way, that would be super!
Also, start thinking about art themed Halloween costumes for the haunted house! I really think this is going to be tons of fun. Those of you who already work in schools, please let the teachers and parents know about it so they can come too!So come to this meeting, there will be a sign up sheet for the bake sale outside of DSV's office soon. See you there!

Upcoming Events!!!!
Thursday September 17th: Read to Succeed. Lavergne Lake Elementary 5pm-7pm
We need everyone who has not confirmed that they are coming to email Quinton immediately! Her email is jqw2a@mtsu.edu. If you are coming, you need to be there around 4:15 to get to know the parents and faculty, as well as enjoy a free lasagna dinner! We would like to leave at 3:30 in order to be sure we get there early. The address of the school is:
The address to the school is
201 David's Way
La Vergne, TN 37086
(615) 904-6730
Please meet Quinton and I in the gravel parking lot behind Scarlett Commons at 3:30 if you want to follow us there. We ask that you dress professionally since you are representing MTSU art education. You also should have read and received a copy of the book and have picked and excerpt to read before the activities. We loom forward to seeing you all there!
October 21-22 (Wednesday & Thursday) Halloween Bake Sale
Our first bake sale will be on October 21-22 in the Todd hall 2nd floor lobby from 8am-2pm. We will need at least 2 people working the table at all times and shifts are available in 30 minute increments. There will be a sign up sheet for times to work and food and drinks to bring in the next week. if you know any local companies who would like to donate any goods, please ask them! Free items=full profit!
October 29-30 (Thursday & Friday) Haunted History
We will be sponsoring a an art history themed haunted house that will be open to the public. Facilities and times are still undetermined, but we would like to have it from 5pm-7pm on both days in the room beside the 1st floor bathrooms behind the drawing labs in the Todd hall. There is an idea to convert the entire hallway into a haunted maze that ends in the room, where we will be serving refreshments and have Halloween themed games. Personally, I really like the hallway idea. We would also like to charge $2 or so to make a little money, but that too has not yet been confirmed. Anyone interested in working this event should email us as soon as they can!
October 31: Trick or Canning
The MTSU Psi Chi/Psychology Club has asked us to co-sponsor this event with them. On Halloween night, in addition to dressing up and getting tons of candy, we will also be asking business to donate canned goods that will go to our foodbank. I really don't see a reason not to do this, it's a great way to give back and seems like tons of fun! Again, please let us know if you wish to participate and we'll get you signed up!
Yard Sale this Friday and Saturday! Beth's House: 270 W. Thopmson Lane, Murfreesboro
This Friday and Saturday we will be having a yard sale at my house to raise funds for our t-shirts, among other things. I am pretty sure we will raise enough money to cover the cost of everyone's shirts with some left over. If you have any items you would like to donate, please contact me and we will arrange a way for me to get them from you! Also, if anyone would like to work the yard sale with us, you are more than welcome, just contact me for directions!
I think that's about all, if there's anything else I need to mention, let me know and I'll send out an email to everyone. :)
